Western Road in Crookes is due to be resurfaced in October 2020. Watch our video below featuring Cllr Tim Huggan and campaigner Bex Atkinson to see an overview of what will be happening, and the solutions Amey have proposed to avoid felling of the street trees. We will be keeping a close eye on any changes to the plans between now and when the works are due to start.
Email us if you wish to look at a detailed annotated copy of the plans.
As a resident of Western Road for over 25 years I would like to say that the news that the planned resurfacing work for the road and footpaths due to commence next week is very welcome news as Western Road has for far too long been neglected in the Council’s and Amey’s streets ahead plans. I would also like to comment that there has been very little communication with the residents of Western Road regarding the condition and lack of maintenance work, which is quite disappointing. All the roads in the surrounding area have been resurfaced and regularly have maintenance notice signs on display.
However, I am interested to know how Amey plan to carry out the streetworks, as the road is constantly lined with parked vehicles and wheelie bins left out on the footpaths.
In the past, when any work has been planned and parking cones have been placed on the road, they have subsequently been moved by people wanting to park their vehicles for the duration of their working day; the parking cones are then left on the footpaths or kept as souvenirs by the student population in the area.
I would appreciate your feedback to my comments.
