The Lib Dem team in Crookes and Crosspool are delighted that a new 20mph zone will be implemented in the area. The Lib Dem team in the area have fought for years to improve road safety locally and are delighted this project has finally progressed after being initially agreed way back in 2012.

The changes are due to come in later this year and will see a large area of Crosspool have speed limits reduced to 20mph on residential roads. This will make roads safer for residents in their cars, walking or cycling with dangerous speeding reduced.

Local Lib Dem Councillor Tim Huggan said; “This is something we’ve been campaigning on for many years, I asked for its implementation back in 2019 and am pleased to see it now receive cross party support at the Councils new Transport Committee.”

“We’re pleased to see this now finally happening and hope it will make a real difference to the safety of residents in Crosspool. There has been a number of accidents and near misses in the area so hopefully these changes will improve the safety of the parents and children.”

“Naturally I am disappointed that Manchester Road is not to be included in the scheme or the area of Crookes adjacent to Cross Lane and this cannot come soon enough.”

“We will keep working to improve road safety right across our area and want to see the implementation of 20mph zones across more residential areas of our city. Especially given the hilly nature of our area and the large amount of on street parking, making the speed limit 20mph will make our streets safer, but we will keep campaigning for further safety measure to protect everyone in the local community.”
