Following a spate of accidents in residential areas of Crookes and Crosspool.
There have been growing calls to ask ‘What has happened to the Consultation on 20 Miles per hour Zones in parts of Crookes and Crosspool.
Well the City Council consultation happened way back in in 2012.
They agreed that every one of the 84 residential areas in Sheffield would all become 20 MPH zones.
So far they have completed just 4! At the current rate of progress Crookes (at least this part) may not be a 20MPH zone until 2040!
We all know that the chances of survival from a road traffic accident at 20MPH for a pedestrian is nearly 80% whereas at 40 MPH it falls to only 20% – safer streets are what we all desire.
The added benefit of slowing traffic in residential areas is lower emissions from cars and van exhausts.
So we say twenty’s plenty for Crookes and Crosspool
